Phoenix Firing Six
We built the superstructure in sections as we wanted to include some ceramic fibre insulation, and to test a few ideas on furnace-building, whilst creating a versatile furnace. Building a separate inner wall enabled us to fire it before adding the insulation and the outer wall, so making a strong internal structure that we hoped would not crack during repeated use.
Separate upper walls and roof would allow us to easily replace them with other designs, and three gathering holes would allow easy access to the pots, each of which could hold a different colour glass. Alternatively, we could run experimental melts using many small pots, all fitted around a central hole in the shelf.
