Glassblowing

This was a ten-day firing, running from the 21st to the 30th August, 2021.

Each day, we lit the furnace at around 07.30 and charged the pots at between 10.00 and 11.00, when the furnace temperature reached 1000°C. We blew glass from about 11.30 until 13.00, broke for lunch, worked from 14.00 until about 19.00, usually finishing at 19.30, after emptying the pots.

This meant that total blowing time each day was about six and one half hours.

This firing coincided with the 'Hampshire Open Studios' event, and we had a sparse, but steady stream of visitors watching the glassblowing during the ten days. We also had visits from a few postgraduate students, who helped with stoking.
