Glassblowing

This was a nine-day firing, running from the 15th to the 23rd May, 2021. The weather was variable: rainy and windy, with some sun. Temperatures were around 8°C - 12°C.

We lit the furnace at around 07.30 and charged the pots at about 11.00, when the furnace temperature reached 1000°C. We blew glass from about 11.30 until 13.00, broke for lunch, worked from 13.45 until about 17.45, then blew from about 18.30, finishing at

about 20.00 and emptying the pots - which took about fifteen to twenty minutes.

This regime worked for all of us and meant that total blowing time each day was about seven hours.

We mainly undertook production work, but we also had several post grad students visiting and stoking for a few days.
