As the furnace had now dried it could now be tested for the correct gathering hole height, and we could work out if it needed to be raised or lowered by either making a tile support for it to stand on or by digging a channel in the ground where it was to be sited. Fortunately, these adjustments were not necessary.

Now we knew that the height was correct we could build the wooden marver tables and pipe-warming stands (we had already made cracking-off stands for the irons).
