015a: Based on a class of beakers common throughout the Roman Empire and usually in colourless glass. Can be referred to as ‘Airlie’ beakers after the find site in Angus, Scotland. Some found in Denmark were decorated with enamel paintings of animal hunts and others (all known only from fragments) were engraved with representations of fish. A fragmentary example from Vindolanda on Hadrian's Wall has an enamelled scene depicting gladiators. The enamelled examples tend to be thicker-walled than the engraved and plain examples. (2nd to 3rd century AD)
